Window Shop Wednesday

An idea that took two months to finally come to life! HAHAHA.

We’ve come to like online shopping as we can easily choose from among a vast range of options of clothes, gadgets, shoes, books, art supplies, and a whole lot more with the comfort of staying in one place. We’d simply browse among Facebook pages, Instagram accounts, Multiply sites, and other websites (trusted ones, of course), and then bargain with ourselves (“Do we really need this?” haha), take note of what we can save up for, and double check if the online shop’s legit. We sometimes have the habit of bookmarking a particular item we like, say, a top or a watch, then we try to get back to it once we have enough resources, or if we’ve found a shop selling the same item and then compare. Thus, Window Shop Wednesday came to mind.

We’ll try to post our latest finds on the web, from fashion items to gadgets and techs, from art supplies to photography tools, to just about anything we find interesting. We promise to post trusted sites, as well, as a safeguard against bogus sellers!

Here’s a first one from us!

A – Top from Happy Stripes

M: I like cute tops with interesting detail like this one. The collar is nice and unique, plus, the color is my favorite shade of blue.

B – Bracelet from Boutique Le Chic

M: Won’t this go well with the top? This one is very unique and chic, the colors look great together.

C – Instax Film from Instaxcular

R: We ran out of film for our Polaroid camera. It’s high time we stash on some real quick for the summer! Good thing Instaxcular has them in affordable prices.

D – Skater Skirt from Sugar Thrifted

M: Is this even counted? I got mine, already! HAHAHA. Sugar Thrifted sells made-to-order skater skirts which are very trendy now, and really perfect for the summer. We must get more colors.

Sony Nex-5N Unboxing

Hello everyone!

Ok, we don’t know where to place this post. It’s not an actual review. Think of it as more of an unboxing with a slight hint of a review. We don’t know. You just tell us what it is once you’ve gone through the post. Heehee.

So, ok, back to topic. We’ve been meaning to post this one since we got it, but sadly, time was not our friend. But yay, today we had the time to sort things out and do a mini-post. So here it is, the latest addition to our ever-growing tech stuff. We present to you all, the Sony NEX-5N!

TADAAAA! Straight from the box… kinda.

We got the camera from CameraHaus. Included in the purchase is a free carrying case for the NEX-5N as well as an 8GB Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo.

Complete package. Woot!

Opening the box, you will be greeted with the following items:

- the camera itself (we got the black one, but there’s a white and silver one as well)

- an PC installation CD

- several manuals

- the warranty slip

- the battery and charger

- a mini-USB to USB cable

- a camera strap

- the screw-on flash

We’ve just started playing with our new toy, so we still can’t give you a more in-depth review (besides, we’re not pro photographers, we just shoot, shoot and shoot some more :D). However, based on how we’ve played around with the NEX-5N so far, we only have one thing to say about it: AMAZING. We really enjoyed how most of our shots came out, even if we’ve just started tinkering with the settings. We’re still learning all the possible tweaks we can do with the camera, and hopefully by the end of the year, we can already breeze through the different settings with ease.

Again, the images the camera produces are DSLR-like quality, sans the bulk (which is one of the main reasons why we bought the NEX-5N in the first place). It fits easily inside a small bag, and would even fit inside the pocket of a hoodie (yes, we actually tried it). We only have the kit lens as of the moment, but we’re already liking the shots taken through it. We’ll invest in getting other lenses, of course, but for now, we’re already happy with the 18-55.

We’ll keep you posted on whatever adventures we have with this little monster. :)

Paper Quilling Tutorial

Feeling quite stressed lately, we’ve found a way to be at ease while being productive at the same time: paper quilling! We know it’s a favorite and well-known hobby among craft enthusiasts, thus we’re lucky to be able to learn tips and tricks for them as we’ve “restarted” (had a few attempts but those projects never got finished huuuu). Weee :) We’re sharing a few of our learnings, and surely we’ll post whatever we can come up with :D

Paper quilling is immensely fun! You can play with colors, textures and prints. Plus, the tools are easy to acquire. It’s also a great way to recycle pieces of paper, from giftwraps and paperbags to test papers and readings (joke, do not, share them or keep them for future reference :D). The steps are also easy, you just coil and coil and ta-dah :D

What you need:

Paper scraps

Scissors, cutter or craft knife

Pencil, bobby pins, marker, any cylindrical object

Ruler

Glue or tape

We’ve got a habit of keeping paper scraps, those which are left after doing projects. We sometimes use them for making itty bitty pieces for other projects so that we won’t have to take a new one. SAVE PAPER! Hehe. They came in handy this time, too, as we needed lots and lots of paper strips.

Cut the paper into strips, length, width and design as preferred. Experiment, it’s fun and exciting, you’ll be amazed with the results.

Take your cylindrical object, in this case, a hairpin. Place the strip in the gap.

Lock in your paper strip by making a really small fold. Make sure you do not fold firmly, otherwise it might deform the center of the coil.

Carefully coil the paper strip by twirling the hairpin. The tightness of the coil depends on the firmness of the twirl. You can get some tape and seal the coil to tighten the coil further.

The fun, surprise part: slowly unwinding the paper strip will get you loose spirals, while carefully pushing out the paper strip will get you tighter, compact spirals.

Take your glue and mount the spirals accordingly. Here you’ll see that we had uneven strips, hehe. Sarreh :P
